Incoming PhD student Alexander Bandukwala has been selected to receive the CSGrad4US fellowship by the NSF Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE). The fellowship will provide support for Alexander’s graduate studies at U-M as he pursues research at the intersection of programming language theory and human-computer interaction (HCI) with advisor Prof. Cyrus Omar.

The CSGrad4US fellowship is a prestigious and selective program that aims to support a diverse cohort of individuals who plan to pursue a doctorate in computer science or a related field. Its goal is to “increase the number and diversity of domestic graduate students pursuing careers in computer and information science.”

The fellowship will support Alexander’s pursuit of a PhD at U-M, where he hopes to continue his research trajectory in the areas of programming languages and HCI. He will be working in the Future of Programming Lab with Prof. Omar to develop live functional programming platforms.

“I am honored to be selected for this fellowship, and am looking forward to further pursuing my research agenda at U-M this fall,” said Alexander.

Alexander brings a wealth of experience to U-M, having worked as a software engineer for the past several years at various companies, including DRW Holdings and OneMain Financial. His academic background includes an MS in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
