New free textbook: Foundations of Applied Electromagnetics

Kamal Sarabandi's new textbook is ideal for first-year graduate students wanting a solid foundation in electromagnetic theory.

Distilling more than 15 years of experience teaching Electromagnetic Theory I for graduate students at the University of Michigan, Prof. Kamal Sarabandi published a new textbook, Foundations of Applied Electromagnetics.

Sarabandi is a renowned expert in the field, and the book draws on his own active research in the areas of radar remote sensing, antenna theory, electromagnetic wave propagation, and bioelectromagnetics.

Foundations of Applied Electromagnetics provides a strong foundation in field theory, relevant to modern applications ranging from high data-rate wireless communication to the sensors required for autonomous driving – as well as more long-standing applications in microwave remote sensing, military systems, biomedical applications, and space exploration.

The book is the latest addition to the Free ECE Textbook Initiative, which offers high quality textbooks free of charge to students, researchers, and faculty worldwide. Sarabandi’s book is the first in the series written especially for graduate students. It is available now as a PDF, and soon also in hardcover format from Michigan Publishing for a nominal charge.

Sarabandi is the Fawwaz T. Ulaby University Distinguished University Professor, and Rufus S. Teesdale Endowed Professor of Engineering. Director of the Center for Microwave Sensor Technology, he is a Fellow of IEEE, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the National Academy of Inventors. He has received numerous honors and awards throughout his career, including the IEEE GRSS Distinguished Achievement Award, the IEEE Judith A. Resnik medal, the IEEE GRSS Education Award, and the NASA Group Achievement Award. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
